2019 Idea Audition Winner - Lillian Glanton

Lillian Glanton started her music career at 15 years old as a contestant on American Idol.  After several years as a performer, Lillian realized her true love for writing music and that became her focus.  She started at the University of North Alabama to learn the business side of music.  It was there, during a marketing class that she learned about the Shoals Idea Audition.  “I thought of the Idea Audition as the local Shark Tank and was interested.”   She threw her hat in the ring and was the 2019 Idea Audition Winner.

“This was a life changing experience for me and I would not be where I am today without it.”  Lillian said of the Idea Audition.  With the winnings, she was able to partner with a local building owner on North Jackson Highway in Sheffield and renovate the building for song rooms and a music venue.  The Music Shoals Song Rooms were born.  “I saw a cup that needed to be filled for song writers in this area” which was the inspiration. 

The Muscle Shoals Song Rooms have three elements – first a music venue, second the rooms that song writers can rent and finally she has started an online education platform.  The online platform was the final piece started after COVID-19 hit and the song rooms were shut down.  Now Lillian has taken her brand international, helping song writers all over the world.  With a monthly membership, song writers have an outlet to pitch songs, get feedback from other people in the industry, and even cut for artist’s projects.   

Her latest venture has been a Podcast. It can be found at @makingitmusicpodcast.  This is a free resource that can reach more people.  She still plans to grow the Song Room and her festival that will be back in November 2021. 

As for the Idea Audition, Lillian’s advice to all the people auditioning is to be yourself – your personality is what will capture the judges first.  If you are excited about your idea, that will shine through.  And to the winner of the competition, spend your money wisely.  Really think about how this money will best be used to better your business or brand.
