From Incubation to Innovation: The Success Story of Alabama Metal Art
Chris Roberson, Alabama Metal Art, began a decade ago at the Shoals Business Incubator (SBi). With a calculated approach, he used the SBi to test his business idea and minimize costs before fully committing to his business idea. His business strategy is that you have to “crawl before you walk” and the SBi was a huge part of that concept.
Alabama Metal Art specializes in custom metal business signs from the outset. Initially, they catered to individual clients but have grown their business to more business-to-business relationships; attributing their success to the strong relationships created in the beginning – “you get what you give”.
After their time at SBi, Alabama Metal Art moved to their own space. This marked their transition from an incubator environment to an independent business venture. With this growth came four expansions. Three focused on equipment and space, while one expanded their office to align with their business growth.
The Shoals Business Incubator wasn't just a workspace; it provided tailored support for Alabama Metal Art. The SBi staff actively promoted the business and sought ways to enhance their services. The SBi staff's support was crucial, as they actively engage with entrepreneurs like Chris. Their collaborative approach contributed to Alabama Metal Art's success.
